re: the neocons next war: a must read Ollie you seem to be in a state of confusion. None of your questions make any sense.

You are advocating action of whatever type even though it may be (and is) ill conceived over a cool rational and reasoned approach. For example If, as we have been told ad nauseam, that the provocation for the Israel's attack was Hizbollah's kidnapping of Israeli soldeirs, then a simple prisoner swap could have been negotiated. Israel has many thousands of prisoners to offer, not the least of which are half of the democratically elected Hamas Palestinian cabinet!!! Such swaps are a common place and happen all the time. Why not this time?

"You refuse to acknowledge that peace must be won."

You bet peace must be won but experience in the ME shows us quite clearly that peace is not won by wars. Your mates did really well in Iraq didn't they? And now you want more of the same. Peace can only come if both parties can get what they need from a political solution. The Israelis need peace and the Palestians need their land back. Simple enough really with good will on both sides...But how to get that good will. Some might argue that the only way will be for both sides to fight themselves to a standstill. Only then will they be ready to really discuss peace. My view is that the world can not allow this to happen as a world conflagration is a likley consequence of such open ended warfare.

"Mel Gibson blames jews for the world woes and the press jumps on him like a tron of bricks. If he had joined some whacky branch of Islam and said the same he would have hardly raised a ripple - its to be expected. Remember all the hysterical "sensitivity" over publishing the Danish cartoons?"

What this proves is that the world still is able to recognise genuine antisemitism. It's shown that by its forthright and deserved criticism of Mel. On the other hand the Arab/muslim world have some genuine grievances and try as the US and its allies might, to redefine words such as terrorism and antisemite, those grievances need to be addressed.

I find your lack of ability to recognise nuance a bit disappointing ollie. You used to be one of the smartest posters on HC. I don't know what happened to you.

    Cheers,
