Why would it be a sheer volcanic layer Warnie.
These volcanoes were active hundreds of Kms away on the west Alaskan Coast above the plate subduction Zone where they get most of the quakes.
The volcanic ash moved from west to East and settled on the ocean combining with the silts being washed down from the Brooke's Ranges area.
So this was a gradual process that combined the ash with the silt over the geologic period that created the HRZ zone.
Taking this geologic history on board what exactly do you mean by SHEAR Warnie ?
