There is no reason why ADSL also can't be used to poll for intrusions. Security centre regularly polls the always-on ADSL connection and if a signal is not received, it immediately phones the home number (linked to the ADSL line). If line is dead this immediately triggers an invesigation. Also triggers the alarm to go off at the residence (triggered by dead ADSL and phone line). Pretty straight forward really.
