Worley is an engineering firm, not just an oil and gas services firm.. they do things outside of O&G that's just their biggest market sector. They do a lot in many many areas of engineering (even agricultural) with clients like BALANCE in nz etc etc

Anyway, besides this, your point that engineers who are trained in electrical engineering cannot be a board member for an agricultural company is deeply flawed. There are pros and cons to both situations (being in an industry or being fresh-eyed with good qualifications).

Pros are that they are not pre-disposed to the 'way of doing things' which have proven time and time again to be flawed in the presence of newer technologies and operating methodologies. It is also good to bring experiences from other industry into an industry which typically slow moving. Engineering services companies are constantly having to update and upgrade skills to survive, the agricultural sector is not.

The cons is pretty big too though, in that the new board is unlikely to have the best contacts in the industry to get things done and also to find out how other similar businesses are approaching similar problems.

Both of these things can be managed. It is simply a matter of ability and skill which is not unique to any industry or profession, there are good and bad doctors, engineers, pilots etc... it's why management is such a crucial piece in any stock success.

I would look more to their past records than the past companies/positions, if you can find that information.
