No, it's not about personal responsibility -
if we only had personal responsibility - we would sell grog and cigarettes to kids ----------- but, we don't.
And, we don't target children with cigarette ads or grog ads --------------- BUT,
we DO target children with junk food adds ------------- heaps of them.
COKE
Maccas
Icecreams
Sweets
We purposefully design shops and supermarkets so as to put sweets right at kid level. Maccas put a huge effort into the height of their sign - so that a kid in the back seat of a car can see it giving you time to cave in to a request from the kid to stop.
Where is the nanny state with that?
Just what is 'personal responsibility' up against there?
If we think we have a problem with sugar - and, IMO - we very much do ------------------ one of the very first places to start is to attack the suppliers to our children --------- our kids - whose lifetime eating habits are formed in childhood -
and, those kids are being peddled to by industries ------- legal industries --------- which, should be anything but legal.
