Hello everyone, this time I have a series of questions which some of you longer-term holders may be able to answer. Or perhaps those with closer connections to SIRTEX management might be able to resolve on our behalf.
There is a delivery system called SUREFIRE which shows promising clinical results and has FDA/CE approval. You can check out some of the details here and here.
So, I did a quick search of SUREFIRE and SIR-SPHERES and found this. So three years ago, a distribution agreement was struck between SIRTEX and SUREFIRE in Australia and Asia.
I also found this (only a few months old). In particular this: “Tullis Health Investors looks forward to working with Surefire Medical on domestic and international commercial expansion, in particular the opportunity for Surefire in China,” said John Tullis, Partner at Tullis Health Investors. “With more than 50 percent of global primary liver cancer cases occurring in China, the launch of the Precision is positioning Surefire to drive adoption by physicians performing embolization procedures, and may also help to decrease overall treatment costs.”
So a number of questions spring to mind:
(1) Has anyone seen anything in any SIRTEX presentation or report showing the contribution of SUREFIRE to revenue/profits? I can't see anything since the announcement in 2013. Is the distribution agreement still in place?
(2) Is SIRTEX still promoting SUREFIRE as a delivery method (anywhere in the world?)
(3) Do the various clinical trials underway use a consistent delivery method? Results could be distorted if for example some patients in one arm used SUREFIRE and others didn't?
(4) How exactly are Surefire exploring China expansion, and is this with or without SIRTEX involvement?
It also occurs to me that if SureFire is a genuinely superior delivery method (which I would guess needs to be ratified with more comprehensive clinical trials) then SIRTEX should look seriously about buying this company out and further differentiating its product compared to Therasphere.
Thanks to all, and happy researching.
