What 'they' actually believe and post are probably very different. More likely another exit opportunity continuation creation attempt. More at attempt at illusion rather than self delusion. Note that now even minor strength is being sold into.
I suppose the other possibility is actually the old self delusion with a big dose of gross stupidity.
