PEOPLE residing in Bougainville’s former capital Arawa have been told by landowners to vacate their homes and move back to their villages they abandoned during the Bougainville crisis. This is to give space and open up facilities for the ABG headquarters to move to Arawa. Law and order will be maintained with tougher measures and a proper court house to be set up. All these issues were discussed during a three-day open forum conducted in Arawa which ended last Thursday. The five landowner groups have agreed for the ABG to move in the headquarters as soon as possible. And they have also agreed for the ABG to use their land in order to bring in development and services to the people of Bougainville. Leaders, including the ABG president Joseph Kabui and Ioro MP Benedict Pisi, and landowners attended the forum to listen to issues affecting the region. People came from as far as Wakunai, Eivo Torau, Kongara, Kokoda, and North Nasioi. Ex-combatants mainly former Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA), Bougainville Resistance Force (BRF) including representatives from the Me’ekamui faction also attended. Some of the sensitive issues which had rarely been discussed, surfaced during the forum in Arawa. Also present were the members of the international community in Arawa especially Australians and New Zealanders engaged with the law and justice sector.
