These words were uttered by Jimmy Carter just before he was turfed out. Now Malcolm has joined the long list of pollies who have tried to run on this mantra.

It's true that Malcolm has wedged the states on revenue and well done from me. However if you want to retain government then you need to tread carefully.

Spend-a-lot Bill is running around like a crazed Cheshire Cat promising to spend a zillion extra dollars. With each extra dollar he is promising he is able to get extra votes. This is the rub.

Cash buys votes. The voter is blind to the big picture and when they listen to spend-a-lot then they shrug and think that it is all under control.

Wayne set the example with his punishing use of the govts credit card. Now where is he. Gorn. He will never be held responsible for the wasting of billions of borrowed dollars.

Finally the $80 billion of missing cash has been explained. Wayne was going to borrow it.
