Xenophon's a good retail politician as well as a good senator. He's able to break down a complex issue so people can understand it and tailors his comments for the sound bite. And because he writes his own material it comes across better than ministers spruiking the talking points written by a spin doctor and circulated by the PMO. Yes, he is occasionally opportunistic too - I'd describe it not so much jumping on a bandwagon as giving a bandwagon a bloody good shove and hopping on it when it starts to move. It gets things done.
I'm with misty on this one. We need properly independent senators like Xenophon as part of the checks and balances of the upper house.
