What a frightful evening.
I am just home from the Opera, canapés and Champagne.
Now, where was I? Ahhhhh yes, middle Australia.
Who on Gods earth do you expect to provide the bulk of Australian governments tax revenues if it is not middle Australia?
Middle Australia is a wider, better off group than in almost any other country on the planet. My endeavours have created an annual revenue stream for the Federal and NSW governments totalling close to $4,000,000 ... that's more than many ASX companies pay and more than a majority of wealthy Australians pay ... and I don't mind a cracker.
I couldn't have provided that revenue stream for governments without their help ... roads, rail, hospitals, medical and legal systems, enviable public health, commercial infrastructure, defence and border protection, police, ambulance and paramedics, child care, schools, technical colleges and universities, reliable electricity and liquid fuels, rubbish collection, sewage disposal and telecommunications ... without any of that I could not have done it.
With a mind shift, middle Australia could set out to PAY AS MUCH TAX AS POSSIBLE OVER THEIR LIFETIMES. The country would be prosperous beyond imagination, assuredly middle Australia would be considerably more wealthy than presently, the country would be brimming over with entrepreneurs and innovators, Australia could be the envy of every other nation on earth and could lead the world in foreign aid and global citizenry.
But no.
Middle Australia sets out to make it a life time mission to pay as little tax as possible and to bitch about the lack of government services and in doing do deny themselves a wealthier, more comfortable and more fulfilling life by working to rules, the clock and to union directives. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot.
Perhaps this is a bit extreme, but to a degree I think I have a point.
