Smart wiring in houses is, at present, pretty low tech. It is more about distributing audio/visual and data through the house than anything else. On more expensive installations it is also automation, which is just using a very basic lighting control system (such as C-Bus or other low spec system) ... because it is all about price, and at the moment there is nothing else that does it.

There are some systems which kinda look like ADRC, but are actually just an interface to a lighting control (or home automation, if you like) system, but they are not IOT systems. You cannot bring home something new, pull it out of the box, and have it working on your interface ... it needs to be wired and programmed in.

The commercial construction industry is ten years in front of housing with technology, and IOT has not even appeared there yet. I have designed and installed systems which perform some of the functions ... but it is impossible to reproduce what IOT will bring.

Really, nothing does what XPED promises to do in the future, which is why it has attracted the attention it has. It really is something special, when you really consider the impact it will have - and believe me, I have. As an electrical engineer in the large commercial/industrial fields, I've been watching this technology carefully since it first came up a few years ago, as I will be specifying it in a few years.
