Smartcard trial on city buses

THE NSW Government is calling for 1000 volunteers to trial a smartcard system on Sydney's public transport.
NSW Transport Minister John Watkins today said the first public trial of the TCard smartcard ticketing system would begin on several bus routes in October.
The TCard system was designed to allow commuters to travel on all trains, buses and ferries in Sydney with one card, and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2007.
The trial will be on government buses that service the inner-west and pass through King Street, Newtown.
"People who are regular commuters on any of these services should consider whether they'd like to be part of this important testing stage of the project," Mr Watkins said.
A trial will also take place on a private company's routes in south-western Sydney, Mr Watkins said.
