Waldo, we can ONLY trade in A$. We can buy/sell other currencies to our heart's content, but we can only print A$ and meet our obligations with A$s or more correctly, the currency of our creditor which we have bought on open market. We can only meet our obligations with A$ converted to our creditor's currency. The zero balance only happens when A$ equals Yuan at the exchange rate of the day.

lets not forget the $21 billion currency swap we did with china. china is in the superior position and we dont or wont have much of a choice in the future
