Face recognisation is great, but how about if you didn't look at them?

Aussie selfie drone ROAM-e is not an April Fools day joke, actually exists
By Chris Southcott in Apps on Friday 1 April 2016
No, it’s also not an April Fool’s day joke. The ROAM-e is a real, serious flying selfie machine. And it’s Australian made, which almost brings a tear to my eye.

Dropping in at a cool price of $350, the ROAM-e can hover up to 25m above you and uses facial recognition tech to keep shots steady and focused on any pretty little face. It’s basically a selfie-stick without the stick.

The flying device, which Aussie company IoT Group don’t want to call a drone, can even keep up with you while you’re moving, with a speed limit of 25km/h. Battery life is also pretty typical for the price, with a 20 minute rating.

There is one weird thing about the ROAM-e though. Because it doesn’t have an inbuilt GPS, it looks like you might actually have to keep your eyes locked onto the camera for the tracking features to work. IOT’s mobile app also includes direct control options, so at the very least you’ll have a drone with a camera, but this could be problematic.

Pre-order are available in Australia right now, with units set to ship sometime in July. IOT Group also says they’ll be launching the ROAM-e in other selfie-loving markets like Japan and the US in the coming months.

For now though, get ready to take some drone selfies Australia. And for the last time, this product is 100% not made up, I promise you.
