    Umm well yes and no.
    You can certainly redo the science.. but the process is protected.. so you can't comemricalise it. so if you want to use the process in the patent it you need permission from the patent holder.. typically this means a fee of some sort.

    However understanding the background of the patent and all the science.. usually means you can find ways around the patent.. change the process or specifications in ways to make it different so you're not in breach of the patent.

    If you;'re in a JV with a patent holder you may find they allow you to use the patent royalty free.. I suspect in this instance Tata has patents on end use products etc.. so doesn't really impact on Talga who supplies feedstock to Tata
