Oil prices have been rising as a wildfire spreads through a key oil sands producing region in Canada, interrupting supply.
US Nymex crude added 0.8 per cent to $US44.66 a barrel, while global benchmarkBrent crude put on 0.8 per cent to $US45.37.
But energy stocks slipped 0.2 per cent.
