Looks like the NZ gov were the ones who may have told AIZ to settle that class action even if they thought they could win it..

Had they have lost they could have faced a $12Billion dollar bill and given the NZ government owns 53% of the company they would not have liked the risk I bet..
Good news is that its done now - the market can now focus on earnings and the Virgin sale
