That might be a little harsh.
It is difficult to say what SDL management could have done better. It was always a very complex deal to bring to fruition. Perhaps they could have accelerated the funding when IO was roaring, even if they had to take in an equity partner to do it - but who knows, perhaps they tried that too.
I suppose fair criticism can be levelled for the granting of management performance options and bonuses on what had to be incredibly flimsy performance hurdles. And without meaning to be callous, the decision to fly the entire board in one aircraft in a region with a notorious aviation history most certainly had an impact on the future of the company - and as others have mentioned on the families.
But overall, I can't really see the SDL outcome as management failure.
