As has already been said, the amount of tax you pay is then dependent on the usual suspects, tax bracket, losses to offset gains, negatively geared investments, deductions etc. There are myriad ways to reduce the pain of CGT or time CGT events to coincide with lower income years (I like to head overseas for 6mths and halve my wage earnings )

Hi, thanks for the informative post.
I'm confused about capital gains tax.
I haven't sold shares before.
Your post explains that I must pay 50% tax on the money I made from the shares?
If I earn 80,000 a year in a job and then the extra I made from my shares is there any way to lesson the tax I have to pay?

How do day traders manage it all? Do they pay 50% on every share they sell everyday
