Petrol engines have been around for over 100 years. Lithium battery powered motors could be around for as long.
The demand for fossil fuels was eventually going to exceed supply and eventually the supply was going to run out.
We would have still been using mainly fossil fuels for many decades to come but global warming has sped up the change to alternative power sources.
This is the crux of the matter. A change is coming and it has to happen quickly. The only viable answer is Lithium batteries. Sure, some time in the future there may be better products but once Lithium is in place, it won't be superseded as quick because the change comes at a huge cost.
Will there be another global emergency in the future to justify another huge cost change? Probably not.
