Yes as you can see there are many variations, for instance there are 7 wafer sizes that are in use today, and there are also the variables of what those substrates are made of?
SK's calculations are wrong on so many variable levels, size just being one of them, another is what material the substrate is made of, i.e it could be made of cut Silicon from an ingot or it could be SOI which is Silicon epitaxially grown of an insulator like glass, it could be pure Germanium or it could be virtual Germanium, or it could be Gallium Arsenide which is extremely costly, an 8" or 200mm gallium arsenide substrate could cost $5000 but a Silicon substrate of the same size could cost $5, I don't know how much a SiGe Sn substrate of 200mm would cost but it would be substantially less than a pure Germanium one, the cells for the Mildura CPV Solar plant were made by Spectrolabs and they were made on pure Germanium and were triple junction, lets see how much the triple junction high efficiency solar cells made virtual Germanium substrate cost?
Pure Germanium substrate costs are also high, for instance a 4" or 100mm Germanium substrate, can sell for as much as $580 dollars, but a virtual Germanium substrate of 200 mm would cost a hell of a lot less than that?
Until we know what size substrate is to be used and what material it is made of ? there is absolutely no way we can calculate the price.
