Governments have made it clear there needs to be change before they will consider investing any of taxpayers money - producing simple steel products where you are competing just on price is not the way to go; he suggested investing in capital equipment inside Whyalla to move into more highly specialised steel products with higher profit margins. Will the Governments do this? Don't know - let's wait and see.
The board should have done this 5 years ago instead of buying WPG. And let's hope if there is a future head of strategy that it would be an experienced chemical engineer or a metallurgist and not a lawyer who belongs in a totally different industry.
