I remember getting into ARE on the record date or the previous day, can't remember exactly. The key requirement is to be a registered holder on the record day, I don't know if the broker you use will have an impact.
It's a massive discount to the SP so you can view it as an opportunity to purchase them at a heavily discounted rate. 1c was always known and if it was an issue for the market, I think the SP would have been trading below 2c by now as there would have been no rebound.
