Another book you might want read from the unbeatable Richard Lowenstein (Of "When Genius Failed", fame i.e. the LTCM debacle, which I omitted above, which precipitated the collapse of the 4 Asian Dragons in the late 90's, including the ouster of Pres. Suharto...not trivial.), a NY Fed orchestrated bailout (not taxpayer funded). BSC didn't pay (only one of 12 that did), and maybe that's why Wall St was so keen for them to go under in 2008, the first in the House of Cards (also a book about this of the same name), sold for less than the worth of their HQ Building to JPMC - under heavy Fed pressure).
It also led Greenspan (who, you will recall, never met a bubble he never liked) to fuel the fire of the then epic mania.....by cutting rates...and also refrain from having used Robert Schiller's term "Irrational Exuberance"....
One time was too much for the manic Party......and indeed, he never did again. Including during COngressional testimony on the residential real-estate bubble (aka "sub-prime mortgage crisis" aka The Great Recession, to follow, now, simply, "the crisis")
