According to the ADB presentation, the Garden Island desalination plant can produce 150kL/day of freshwater from 1 MW of power.

    That equates to 150 X 365 = 54,750kL/year.

Once complete, the GIMP will have an output of 5 MW. Therefore, the freshwater producing capability should be 54,750 X 5 = 273,750kL/year or put another way 237,750,000L/year.

If they got serious and built a bigger microgrid, they might end up with something like this from a 20MW project:

    237,750,000 X 20 = 4,755,000,000L/year.

That amount of water could provide freshwater security for many thousands of remote island communities around the world.

As well, cities such as Perth, would benefit greatly by supplementing existing water supplies with this source of emission free desalinated water.

Another benefit is, producing freshwater from wave and solar is a form of energy storage.

Renourishing Perth's depleted underground aquifers might also be a consideration. At present, recycled water is being used for that purpose.

We can discuss electricity production at another time.
