There was a six player high-stakes poker game, and Teva was one of the players, with his girlfriend MSB watching. Teva had promised to buy her a nice piece of jewellery if the game went well.
One hand, towards the end of the night, Teva got dealt JQ suited. It was decent hand with a lot of potential, so he paid to see the next 3 cards.
On the flop came K,9,2 rainbow, which gave Teva a gutshot draw and nothing else. Being a good poker player, he decided to fold this longshot hand and preserve his capital.
At this point MSB realised that she wasn't going to get her new piece of jewellery.
Just as Teva went to fold, MSB took the cards off him and declared that she is going all in!
She told the table that Teva wasn't trying to fold due to bad cards, he was just busy and had to go.
So Teva left and MSB had to go all in with her own money, which she didn't have much of, so she put in her diamond ring and some other jewellery.
Only the most naive player on the table believed her unconvincing semi-bluff, but the others called and she missed the last 2 cards and lost.
The morale of the story is that good poker players don't chase long odds to the end, and neither do good companies or good investors.
