Brazilian Agriculture Minister, Mr Maggi, wants to expand agricultural trade with Egypt
The expansion of trade between Brazil and Egypt was the theme of the meeting between the Minister,
and Ambassador Mohamed Alaaeldin. Brazil has extensive commercial advantage over the African country
on agricultural exports, which totaled US $ 2.3 billion in 2015.
Beef is the main product sold to the Egyptians, with $ 624 million last year. This amount may increase
further. Mohamed said an Egyptian delegation should be sent to Brazil for the qualification of new
suppliers. Currently, 106 establishments sell beef to Egypt.
Maggi emphasized the importance of expanding trade between the two countries and said that there is still
room to explore. He ruled that the demands of Egypt were analyzed with Brazil, including in connection
with Embrapa, which has a technology transfer agreement for the African country.
Maggi took the opportunity to formalize an invitation to the Minister of Agriculture of Egypt,
Essam Fayed, for a visit to Brazil. According to the ambassador, the visit may take place this year.
In 2013, Brazil sent a mission to the African country to strengthen trade relations.
The ambassador also stressed that there is an agreement between Egypt and Mercosul, which is only
awaiting approval by Argentina. Mohamed said that in addition to the large Egyptian market
the country has more than 90 million people) by selling there, Brazil still manages to reach North
Africa and other Arab countries.
