The UVF paramilitary group forced 3 UK out of Northern Ireland
In the first recorded incident last December, a paramilitary group destroyed a mast under construction by Three UK. Since then, other Three UK transmitter sites have been damaged and forced the company to review its development in Northern Ireland due to heavy losses
The company, which has already erected 193 masts in Belfast and Londonderry, has withdrawn its entire network planning applications in the major towns of Ballymena, Newry and Mourne. Planning applications in other towns have been put on hold until the situation claims down.
Three UK will be hoping to provide 3G network coverage in Northern Ireland in early 2004.
