10-15 years ago everyone was excited about the prospects for CNT. The holy grail was the electronics industry where the electrical properties were predicted to be revolutionary. As research progressed, the industry found it was much harder to overcome the obstacles. Two of the biggest problems are that the electrical properties depend on the chirality of the CNT. So to ensure the best electrical property you need to control the chirality which means single walled CNT with very low defects. It can be achieved, but its expensive to produce. The second problem is how to disperse the SWCNT uniformly in a coating. Again, its very difficult to achieve in a commercially viable product.

Eden's solution is to have a product which can use the mechanical properties of MWCNT which is far cheaper to produce and to do so in the most efficient method for which they have patents. Secondly, they have the rights to the IP for dispersing MWCNT in solution which makes a very convenient additive (I am guessing it doesn't work with SWCNT). They have created a market for essentially the waste product of the hythane technology, and turned it into the primary product.

Even if someone came up with a competitive product, its unlikely they could source the MWCNT at a competitive price and in the quantities they would need. Eden simply has no real competition. It is revolutionary.
