Rum has such a tradition - it really should be respected.

It was even our currency at one stage ----------- from memory - Governor Philip I think????? paid for a house in Rum -------- if my memory is correct.
I think it might have even spurred him on to make the dollar and the dump - or something like that - feel free to correct if wrong.

There is one thing I haven't seen on this thread - and, it isn't really sophisticated - but, it was around a lot when I was a child ------

a shot of rum straight (or a double) - straight down (none of this sipping stuff) - and then immediately - a beer chaser.

Oh, boy, does it light you up on a cold winters day.

I have to say - it's pretty rough - but, I looove the contrast.

The rum just hits with a bang with all it's heat - and then the cold beer follows and you can feel the steam rise out of your tubes - all the way down

It is a real tradition - one that should be tried at least once before one departs
