I would express it in more muted terms.

Firstly, it appears likely but not certain there will be a majority Liberal Government.

    Does anyone know senate numbers?

I am not sure what it says that an admitted dishonest campaign cannot be dismantled in time for an election? That's despite most media outlets calling out the lies in most national print and electronic media.

Such a close result means simply that a decade of governments and oppositions have succeeded in dividing the nation, where a decade prior there wasn't divide.

I see that Turnbull made every effort since taking office to slow things down, cut the vitriol and to deliberately calm things down. The angry and disaffected amongst us couldn't and wouldn't take that lead. Clearly, Turnbull has paid a price for that approach.

Imo, Turnbull was right to go for a double dissolution to try to break the imbroglio of stalemated government. It was a ballsy, principled move. The alternative was?

I don't think Australia can advance until it's voters give a government the power to implement policies and be judged on the performance of those policies. The Senate imo, was never intended to be a vehicle to thwart a decade of government.

The Australian election result should also be seen in the wider context of global despair, manifesting as Brexit and the rise of a Trump. All this imo, emanate from those in the West who have not shared in the spoils of globalisation and who are suffering job losses, declining wages and threats from the rise of BRIC economies.
