"If someone feels strongly, they could contact the candidates up for election, express their concerns, whether on exorbitant government spending or whatever the concern then decide who was most likely to help further their views."
In an ideal world, that would be the way to go, have you ever tried to get an "appointment/phone call with a pollie?
If so, did you actually manage to talk to them?
My biggest problem is being fined for being honest about why I didn't vote, where as anyone that lies,
or doesn't vote, but just gets there name crossed off, receives no penalty. If they weren't so insecure,
about their jobs, Politicians, they wouldn't be forcing us to vote.
Worst sector of (employment) for being investigated/charged with misconduct, travel rorts,
non disclosure of conflicts of interest, claiming dole payments, bouncing off parked cars whilst drink driving
etc. etc, by % of workforce, (and I say that literally tongue in cheek), is Politics.
