I seem to recall that if you borrow to buy shares and shortly afterwards sell the shares,then the debt remains and you have the cash in hand .
The interest on the loan is still a tax deduction untill paid off.
This situation apparently arose when a person borrowed for investment reasons,then sold the investment and retained the debt and the ATO lost their argument against that person.
Any comments or is anyone familiar with this?
