If in 15 years, just all new cars were EVs, then using some simple maths we get the following. 90,000,000 million new EVs/yr X 60kwh battery ( An EV rated at 50 kwh will have a 60 kwh battery in it and some fancy software) X .6kg/kwh (this is the very bottom range of LCE given in battery technology, it varies according to battery type up to 1.4kg/kwh) = 3,240,000 tonnes of LCE, around 20 times current world supply.

That is a constant growth rate of 22% per annum for the next 15 years, just to get 100% of the car fleet being produced up to 100%, so way behind Richard Branson's projection of 100% of the cars on the road being electric.

A constant rate of growth of 22% is an exponential growth rate. Clowns like those at MacQ Bank have predicted a flat growth line, which is a falling rate of growth each year.

If you add trucks, busses, heavy equipment, trains, boats, home storage, grid storage etc, the number will go up by more than double.

There is no way it will be possible to produce enough lithium from spodumene and the brines in South America to meet the demand that will be needed.
More expensive methods like LITs conversion process will be needed to get up to that level of production.

It means if you are a low cost producer of spodumene you will be making a fortune off every tonne produced cheaply. WE have the tonnes and the future with shallow open cut mining!!
Deep underground mining of spodumene will become a reality because the constant high prices because of the growth rate will allow it.

Stories like this are the exact reason why I'm so bullish on our huge resource, and a bit of research on the brines quickly paints a picture of why we will remain hugely profitable WELL into the future.
Most people just can't see what this disruptive technology is going to do. Richard Branson gets it.
