WTF was today's trading all about?
I read the announcement before the open today and thought this is not going to be good, and it wasn't, not at least to start with.
I offered some shares at the open, thinking I would probably be able to buy them back for less later on, but predictably the buyers melted away below my limit before the open.
Then I was surprised by how many shares were being soaked up at $0.215
So I changed sides and put in a bid for $10k at $0.21, which got taken out fairly quickly, and then some shares started transacting at 0.22 so I amended the sell order that I still had in at 0.23 down to just $10k worth, not particularly expecting it to be filled.
I did think about upping the sell price a bit, but the lure of a good lunch with my neighbours distracted me.
It was a big and pleasant surprise when I came back and found the SP back up to $0.25 and that I had trousered an extra 4,141 shares for just the cost of the brokerage. (If I had been watching, I might have hung onto the shares, but hey, a guy has to eat.)
Although the volume wasn't that great, 3,425,161 shares for $773,256, it still seems the buying was more aggressive than could be attributed to overly optimistic retail investors. At least I hope that's the case. It seems that whoever bid the price back up, is looking through the announcement to greener pastures beyond. In times past, an announcement that gloomy and non-committal would have sunk the share price. I hope today's surprising resilience reflects real underlying value.
The timing of the announcement suggests to me that they were hoping that the hospital dispute would finalize but that the ending of the financial year forced them into an announcement while the dispute is still on foot.
At the end of that part of the announcement they say:
"BSA is well advanced in negotiating a comprehensive settlement with the head contractor in respect to all
outstanding claims on the nRAH project."
To my mind that hints at the possibility of more money in the offing.
At least the nbn stuff is upbeat.
What we need is resumption of dividends. That would do wonders for the SP and the stock's visibility.
Cheers.
