Jessie1, failures of our criminal justice systems and the root causes for the behaviour of individuals need to be addressed much better than governments are doing. That appears to be a major issue in France and IMO it is a significant issue in Australia.
When the capacity of society to manage and cope with individuals like Mohammed Bouhlel is exceeded, it's the responsibility of criminal justice systems to keep us safe from them. That does NOT appear to have happened in Nice and it did NOT happen in the case of Man Horon Monis in Sydney.
For example. over the weekend I heard that a man convicted of involvement in a terror act in Australia was released by the Parole Board without serving his sentence because he was at risk of being radicalised in a NSW jail. According to that report some prisoners are effectively dictating how that prison functions.
Well what utter crap that is! Heads should be rolling at such outrageous decisions and failures!
Our criminal justice system has been largely privatised by stupid politicians and IT is failing us. Our mental health systems have never been properly funded and are looking the Medusa in the face as they just cannot cope with what's coming their way.
So fix our mental health and prison systems and the absurd legal processes which are making innocent people cop the wrath of murderers and the mentally deranged. Stop fooling around with the likes of Andres Breivik, Adrian Bayley, Ivan Milat, Derek Percy and Martin Bryant so that 'soft criminals' cannot 'hardened' by them; let alone ever let them back onto our streets.
