There are only two major MS events in 'late September'. One is the Ignite 'conference' and the other is the CIO 'Summit'. As Wil pointed out the announcement referred to 'summit' so that is the likely event. And as Wil also pointed out, the event is 'invitation only'.
If it is the CIO Summit it IS big news - because not only does that mean that Xped was targeted for invitation but it is also a rare opportunity to INFLUENCE 300 of the most important Chief Information Officers across the globe i.e. CIO's at 300 of MS's partner companies.
We are already a member of Intel's global IoT Solutions Alliance. This provides the opportunity to extend that presence into MS's ecosystem as well.
