Netease's E-commerce platform - Kaola.com sees burgeoning biz in Q2

Chinese Internet firm - Netease, Inc. (NTES.NASDAQ) saw business of its cross-border E-commerce platform - Kaola.com grow fivefold in the second quarter, said Wang Zheng, an official in charge of public relations of the platform Thursday.

Netease kicked off the business to customer (B2C) platform in January to sell discounted imported goods ranging from baby products, foods, cosmetics, daily necessities, and nutritional health products.

Currently, there are over 200,000 businesses engaged in cross-border E-commerce in China, resulting in severe price competition which foretells inevitable industry reshuffle in the future, according to Wang.

Under such circumstances, Chinese cross-border E-commerce operators are competing to optimize their supply chains to sharpen themselves. For Netease, cross-border E-commerce has become one of its key business segments and it will add inputs into the sector in future.

As Wang disclosed, the company reserved over 20 billion yuan cash and set no ceiling for investment in Kaola.com, which was intended to be one of the Top 3 proprietary E-commerce operators in China.
