Kind of reminds me of a story we used to tell at annual company conferences of the salesman explaining how the product worked to an executive (need to keep it simple for both parties) at a potential customer. As the discussion developed the executive honed in on a particular "thing" saying "... so I will be able to do this "thing" by using your product".
The salesman, ever on alert, responds with "I'd be surprised if it couldn't do that".
Months later the executive, now a customer, calls up his salesman and angrily tells him that the product is "not able to do that "thing"". The salesman true to his word and thus maintaining his credibility blurts out "Well, I am surprised!!"
