These guys will internally rationalise the sale to say they got fair value. What else would you expect them to say? A large behemoth like Conoco will sell any uproven oil assets at their predetermined fair value to ensure they meet their internal targets. It seems it didn't include upgraded resource values for later, post Jan drilling, and basically when a group like this want to get something off the books they will dispose. Personally I heard nothing to change my mind about how the super big companies often work especially during a significant down cycle in the oil industry. If things do turn out, as we hope for SNE, then at a different and more positive part of the oil cycle, then I wouldn't be surprised if Conoco came back in at a much higher price. They are just not interested now, need the money and would just prefer someone else to take the risk.
