Turnbull has lost a lot of popularity with the voters and this decision will only add to that. He constantly shows poor judgement, he was blessed to have Abbott and his Govt do what they did to gift him the job of PM. Having just scraped in after going to an election one has no cause to assume he will do anything other than continue to make poor decisions as is his record going right back to Ute-gate.
A former foreign minister and opposition leader that became PM not getting nominated is bizare and that is the way most will see it. Trying to claim that in Turnbulls judgement Rudd is not suitable is foolish, the majority no longer have faith in his judgement as evidenced by the election and this just adds to that. Turnbull should have spun it differently and if as some reports claim he genuinely believes what he has said he is a bigger egotist than the lot of them.
