Indeed, it is a very good ethical principle, but please do not think that it is unique to Christianity, or that is stems only from Christianity. The "Golden Rule" as it is referred to as, exists in most major religious and ethical traditions. Despite, what you have claimed, it also exists in Islam. There is a very good wikipedia entry on the Golden Rule, that includes a section on Islam.
