I live at Tweed Heads and am well aware of the sand that drifts north. The sand comes from a lot further south than Byron Bay. I remember reading where it mostly comes from the Sydney Basin where anyone that lives there will tell you has an almost universally sandstone geology.

From my observations the drift of sand northward hugs the coast fairly closely. So close in fact, that sand bypass systems had to be installed at the Tweed River mouth and entrance to the Broadwater north of Surfers Paradise to allow sand to continue on it's northward drift after sea walls were built. These sea walls caused beaches north to become excessively eroded due to lack of sand.

Not now, but a few years ago I used to fish offshore in locations off Kingscliff, Tweed Heads, Coolangatta and Palm Beach. I can tell you, I lost a lot of gear from getting snagged on reefs in all those locations.

You don't have to go very far from the shore to find these reefs, so it is not all a moving mass of sand.

The latest projects for Ceto 6 will be at Garden Island which I believe is six or seven kilometres from land and WaveHub in Cornwall which is sixteen kilometres from land.

As Teddy said, there are different ways in which structures can be anchored, even in sand and mud but I don't think it will be an issue.
