I'm old(ish) and could be accused of being cynical and wearing a tinfoil hat on occasions. I am also relatively smart, but the big lesson I learnt was that there's always someone smarter (than me). That is premise #1.
You are absolutely correct that the markets fluctuate. But there is always a reason(s). Sometimes the reason is obvious. Sometimes (often I suspect) the herd mentality predominates and the fluctuation is a result of no significant cause. And because most people really don't know what's happening or really know what they're doing (with their investment), they behave irrationally as the herd. That is premise #2.
We all believe and are convinced that Li is a brilliant investment in the near and mid-term future (for reasons we are all familiar so I won't repeat them here) and we see an immensely profitable scenario that will make many very large fortunes. Premise #3.
Add those together and I get...
People smarter than me (and who have the resources and technical abilities) want as big a piece of the Li as they can get. They probably don't have any morals, scruples on how they get it either. This (Li) is too big a prize to think otherwise. So they will manipulate the herd (we daily see how easily this is done) to achieve their objective. The truth is that it is probably not just the Chinese playing the big shark, but the USA, Korea, Japan, the banks, etc etc. But I don't think I'm paranoid. I am a tiny sardine that can survive and profit by being agile and too small to bother with if I don't swim with the school.
