I've been observing recently that this happens to other shares as well. Those planning to sell, do so in advance of the price going ex, often a couple of weeks or more earlier. Buyers buy in advance of going ex. The rise then tapers off so that just one day before going ex the price may fall. It happened with AFI recently and I was able to sell just before going ex because I wanted the capital gain component. Buy two months before ex and sell into the strength but not right on the last day, no way.
