Look at nurses for example. Lots of nurses work "nurse bank" - they are casuals who get called up when a shift needs filling.
It works great for the hospital who only pays nurses when they are needed.
It works great for the nurses who are paid at higher rates (even accounting for missed sick leave, annual leave, etc). The nurses also have flexibility when / where / if they work which works well for nurses with family, or younger nurses who like traveling the world.
Lots of people want permanent work , but lost of people also want flexible casual work. Unionists are again looking after their own interests, not the broader community.
