thats a furphy - the market CANT decide. it is extremely difficult to find a butcher or abattoir that does not slaughter ritually. there is a butcher in belmont (wa) who isnt halal yet most of his meat comes from halal abattoirs. this is the case in all butchers. there are one or two non halal abattoirs in wa but they are too far from the city and their distributrion is local.
and the difference between kosher and halal is that under kosher rules the animal is presented unharmed and perfect - it is not bolted or electified as in halal - the animal is given a clean cut across the throat instantly depriving the brain of blood and oxygen then bled out. the animal dies instantly. halal has a bolt in the brain to stun (or an electrical current) it then has the thoat cut. the animal has been harmed before the cut to some effect thus rendering it non kosher
under kosher rules the knife has to be razor sharp.
