But first, was Penny Wong a gay communist woman? Oh no, not a feminist making policy maker and finance minister as well. I can't recall her confessing to that. What an outrage she should be someone different to me. Is that what happened to Australia.
Seriously though, surely a former High Court judge - or anyone - is allowed to voice an opinion on the issue of whether there should be a plebiscite on equal marriage rights.
Indeed, his concerns are immediately acted out for all to see on the relatively restrained forum of HC? Imagine the degree of hatred and vitriol that could be unleashed in the wider community in the leadup to a plebiscite. MIchael Kirby, a distinguished jurist, makes a valid point.
Some posters seem unable to differentiate between equal marriage rights, which is essentially a gender issue, and sexual abuse of children.
By some estimates around a quarter of women suffered some form of sexual abuse when they were growing up. Guess what? This is an appalling statistic but should one then extrapolate from that and call for a banning of all marriage between heterosexuals?
