When we buy a bottle of Vitamins B Complex, for example, from the pharmacy or wherever, do you buy Blackmore or a cheap bland XYZ? The sale of the prescribed drug, Axiron®, has been and will now more depending on Eli Lilly's marketing offers. Nonetheless, The market share might drop from 100% to 50%~60%, but still reasonably profitable.
On the other hand, I guess they will appeal the course's decision since the patent litigation by the generic drug firms are very common. By lodging the appeal, Eli Lilly can delay the launch time of the generic drug firms for months or years. Do not forget the sale revenue is more than USD2.5M per week!
